The delusional James Lloyd

What goes on in the "Christian Media Mind"?

  1.  Paranoia

  1. Delusional Ideation

The Web MD "Schizophrenia Guide" , speaks of what is termed "Delusional Disorder":

"Delusional disorder, previously called paranoid disorder, is a type of serious mental illness called a "psychosis" in which a person cannot tell what is real from what is imagined. The main feature of this disorder is the presence of delusions, which are unshakable beliefs in something untrue...These delusions usually involve the misinterpretation of perceptions or experiences. In reality, however, the situations are either not true at all or highly exaggerated".

To fully explore the delusional quality of James Lloyd's conversation and thought processes, would take more time and effort than would be practicable. Nonetheless, a brief attempt must be made, as this aspect of Lloyd's personal character cannot go unaddressed "at this juncture".

  • Facts

In 1997 and 1998,  James began to predict that the "Destruction of America" would occur on July 4th 1998.he also announced on air that retired United States Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole, would rule a "post apocalyptic America" beginning in 1998 and would then "go blind in one eye" Pope John Paul II would go on to rule the world with the Antichrist in Jerusalem.

He also proudly announced that Kofi Anan will "fail to complete a single term as Secretary General of the United Nations, most likely being killed". Anan completed the single term and then completed another. When nothing "significant" occurred on July 4th 1998, James went on about his business, oblivious as to the fact that America was still standing.

The same delusion captured Lloyd's imagination again in 2003 On his January 18, 2003, Apocalypse Chronicles radio program, James Lloyd said live on air, " We see certain things that uh we're starting to see things as were getting close I mean were in January 2003 this is the year the thing hits". It's amazing that Lloyd can say without a hint of irony,  "...we've known this for several years now", rather than make a humble admission that he didn't know what he was talking about in 1997 and 1998.

As the new date-of-doom approached, James repeated his prediction more cryptically saying that something "big" is going to happen on July 5th, then began saying that there was still a "window period" between May and June of 2003. during which the Antichrist will appear and in no event any later than June 14, 2003. June 14th was Boutros Boutros Ghali's birthday. In Lloyd's scenario, Ghali had to become the 8th Secretary General of the United Nations by that date and would then become the Antichrist. (This date also passed without incident.  In January of 2007, Korean diplomat Ban Ki-moon became the 8th Secretary General of that body instead of Ghali).

Despite the fact that none of these events happened, Lloyd continues peddle such poppycock in the name of Christ, and his followers continue to purchase it. None seeming to have the slightest doubt that James is an inspired prophet of God. One wonders if they are not "smoking crayons" as Lloyd might say.

  1. Delusions of Grandeur

James Lloyd will do anything for attention. Lloyd seems to draw to him those who will honor him as someone special and to believe himself worthy of it. To see in him any weaknesses or shortcomings common to men or to hold him in any less esteem than complete awe and admiration would reduce him to ordinariness.

The Web MD "Schizophrenia Guide", speaks further about "Delusional Disorder":

  1. Grandiose Delusions

A person with this type of delusional disorder has an over-inflated sense of worth, power, knowledge, or identity. The person might believe he or she has a great talent or has made an important discovery.

The grandiosity of James Lloyd can only be compared to that of the man who calls himself "The" last day Prophet of God, R.G. "Brother" Stair.  He almost seems to compete with to match the proud proclamations of Stair. In one Apocalypse Chronicles tape set commercial, James was correcting a grave error that almost everyone else missed. James has made live, on air statements, to the effect that he is equal with Christ. He also believes himself to be what he calls proudly "a Prophet of the Lord" and tells his listeners that he has "the gift of prophecy". He regularly makes "important discoveries" about "Bible prophecy" and urges his followers to purchase products tailored to meet the need. Few words better describe Lloyd's pomposity than the word Grandiose.

  1. Persecutory Delusions:

People with this type of delusional disorder believe that they (or someone close to them) are being mistreated, or that someone is spying on them or planning to harm them.

There is ample evidence that Lloyd exhibits delusional paranoia of a persecutory nature as he makes regular, cryptic references to his "many enemies". Such enemies are not named but Lloyd has made numerous statements that people are "stalking" him, that he is constantly being "attacked", "threatened" and "slandered" by agents of Satan. If one were to buy into Lloyd's mindset, every dollar in the pocket of his enemies, would be a dollar in the pocket of the Devil.  And let's not forget that the wicked government is out to get him also.  Do you suppose it's because his "earthshaking" predictions prove that he "knows too much" and must be stopped?

One example of Lloyd's unfounded, psychotically paranoid perceptions of persecution, Lloyd implied that the Syrian Government was intentionally jamming his broadcasts. This incident was considered to be so vital to Lloyd that he put out a press release which stated in red lettering "-For Immediate Release-". (Click on thumbnail to the right for larger view). This critical message was circulated amongst the less intelligent Christians on the internet and posted on a number of websites.

Of course, most thinking people would imagine that if Syria had intended to jam the radio signals of anybody, it would most likely be their nearby enemy Israel, but Lloyd's paranoid "remnant" mentality seems to prefer conspiracy to reason. In addition, the frequency shift was slight (5KHz) and resulted in no real interference to Lloyd's commercials at all, as Syria is so far away as to make such interference impossible to notice, but this "press release" Lloyd expresses his confusion as to why the nation of Syria saw fit to do this without explaining themselves to Lloyd. Indeed, he is an important man in his own mind.

Conclusion?

One might argue that he is not delusional and that Lloyd's melodramatics are merely "show business". Indeed, on the Apocalypse Chronicles Show",  Lloyd always seems to have a product to sell which dovetails with the subject of his lunatic rants, and he may be simply pretending to believe what he says. In such case, he is not mentally ill per se, but is simply drawing people into believing cleverly devised fables to get people to send money to him. Would that be fraud?  Lloyd will swear that he is not a fraud.

Christianmediaexposed.com maintains that if Christian Media Network is not simply pretending to believe what they say on the air, for the purpose of selling products to people who will be deceived into buying them, then they must be delusional. It is simply not rational to believe oneself to be a Gifted Prophet" in the face of so many proofs to the contrary.
